Lake Manyara Park
Lake Manyara National Park is a well-known and easily accessible destination, renowned for its rich diversity and abundance of wildlife. The park’s main habitats include the shallow soda lake, which covers around 70% of the park, along with groundwater forests, open grasslands, acacia woodlands, and the striking Rift Valley wall.
One of the park’s most famous attractions is its tree-climbing lions, occasionally spotted lounging in the branches of acacia trees. Other wildlife commonly found in Lake Manyara includes buffalo, elephants, leopards, baboons, impala, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, ostriches, and hippos.
An ornithologist’s paradise, Lake Manyara is home to over 400 bird species. Water birds such as pelicans, spoonbills, Egyptian geese, hamerkops, and vast numbers of migratory flamingos, which gather in their hundreds of thousands, create an unforgettable spectacle over the soda lake.
Often quieter than its more famous neighboring parks, many visitors consider Lake Manyara to be a hidden gem and their favorite park in Northern Tanzania.
